There are five types of cockroaches that are common in Michigan: American, German, Oriental, Brown-Banded, and Wood Cockroaches.
The one to worry about is the German Roach because they prefer indoor locations and they reproduce quickly. The average female German Roach will lay about 30 eggs in a batch that she will carry with her until they hatch. She will produce about 5 batches of eggs in her lifetime, totaling around 150 eggs! German roaches can reach sexual maturity in about three months. This means that you could get four generations of egg-laying females in the same time that it takes another species to produce one.
It is entirely possible for a single female cockroach to start the creation of hundreds of thousands of roaches in a single year.
Roaches are typically introduced to a structure by being carried in. Boxes, Bags, furniture, appliances are easy methods of transport for a German roach.
Cockroaches contaminate food, spread germs and carry pathogens like Salmonella and E. coli. They destroy fabrics, leaving behind stains and odors. They can also trigger asthma symptoms.
German cockroach populations tend to grow rapidly and can be hard to get rid of, often requiring professional treatment. Give us a call today, we would be happy to provide additional information and treatment recommendations.
